  19. I differ from Dale on this: extra white space should be 
  20. collapsed outside of PRE.  A sentence  that    happens to be  typed this
  21. way shouldn't be formatted differently than one that is spaced normally.
  22. The reason is that you then have to pay excruciating attention to these
  23. spaces.

  25. I do notice that there seems to be no way to get white space when you
  26. want it in xmosaic, so there needs to be some provision for that.  But
  27. double spaces are not the way.  
  28.         
  29. Tabs are also another matter.  Perhaps their effectiveness should be 
  30. restricted to a tabbing environment.  Some examples from the group of
  31. how people would like to use tabs outside of PRE would be helpful to
  32. this discussion.
